邵阳市位于北纬25°38′至27°38′，东经109°50′至112°06′。全市地貌类型多，山丘面积广，土壤肥沃，光照充足，雨量充沛，属中亚热带季风湿润气候。年平均气温15.8℃—17.6℃，无霜期266—294天，全年日照1347—1668小时，年平均降雨量1131—1500毫米。作物生长期长，适合各类作物生长。
邵阳交通方便，境内有洛湛、湘黔、娄邵三条铁路， 320、207国道横贯全境，省道1814线已全线改建为高等级公路，南接衡阳，成为邵阳经济注入珠江三角洲新的黄金通道，上瑞高速公路潭邵段和邵怀段已经通车；邵常、邵永、邵衡等高速公路已开工建设。市内各乡镇均通油路。邵阳即将成为湘中腹地新的交通枢纽。
Shaoyang municipality is located between latitudes 25°38′N and 27°38′N, longitudes 109°50′E and 112°06′E. In the whole municipality there are complicated landform, wide mountain region, fertile land and abundant rainfall. It is of subtropical and wet mansion climate with an annual average temperature 15.8 ℃-17.6℃, frost-tree period 266-294 days, sunshine time 1347-1668 hours and precipitation 1131-1500 mm and long growth period. It is suitable for growth of various crops.
The transportation in Shaoyang Municipality is very convenient. Luoyang-Zhanjiang railway, Hunan-Guizhou railway and Loudi-Shaoyang railway run across Shaoyang .The national highways No.320 and No.207 run through it. The Provincial highway No.1814 has been restructed into high-grade road ,reaching Hengyang and it becomes a very important road to Zhujiang Delta for Shaoyang’s economy. Shanghia-Ruili Expressway Xiangtan-Shaoyang part and Shaoyang-Huaihua part have put into service, Shaoyang-Changde, Shaoyang-Yongzhou, Shaoyang-Hengyang Expressways have been under construction. Every village and town has highways. Shaoyang will be another new important hub of communications in central Hunan.
